Congratulations to the Recipients of the 2024 Brighter Minds Mental Health Bursary

October 8, 2024

SUDBURY, Ont., – Compass is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 Brighter Minds Mental Health Bursary. Congratulations to Jamie Hopkins and Athena Grandmaison who have been selected for this year’s bursary. This initiative is specifically designed to support youth with lived mental health experience who are enrolled in local post-secondary institutions.

The Brighter Minds Mental Health Bursary aims to reduce financial barriers, enabling recipients to focus on their studies and reach their full potential. Compass recognizes the unique challenges faced by individuals with mental health experiences and is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all.

“The generosity of the Compass community in providing this bursary gives me confidence in continuing my studies while alleviating the financial stress of post-secondary education,” says Jamie Hopkins. “I’m looking forward to beginning my second year of the child and youth care program with a dedication to give back to this community upon my graduation. I am beyond thankful to have received this bursary and to have the support of Compass in my academic journey.”

“Receiving the Brighter Minds Mental Health Bursary means so much to me,” says Athena Grandmaison. “It will alleviate some financial pressures I face as a full-time student. Managing tuition, textbooks, and everyday living expenses can become overwhelming, especially while trying to maintain a healthy school-work-life balance. This bursary will provide some peace of mind, so I can concentrate on achieving my goals in my academic journey while still prioritizing my mental well-being, rather than worrying about how I will cover essential costs.”

The 2024 Brighter Minds Mental Health Bursary reflects Compass’s ongoing dedication to mental health advocacy and the empowerment of youth in our community.

The bursary fund relies heavily on donations from generous individuals, organizations, and community groups, providing essential financial support for students who might otherwise be unable to afford their education. By supporting the bursary fund, donors are investing in the future of students and empowering them to achieve their academic and professional goals. To donate, please visit compassne.ca/donate/.
