Reporting to the Step Up Step Down (SUSD) Live-In Treatment Clinical Manager, the Clinical Supervisor is responsible for providing clinical supervision to designated staff, and for developing and enhancing core competencies as identified by the agency to meet responsibilities in delivering agency services and programming within the SUSD facility. The Supervisor will achieve results through mentoring, coaching, teaching, leading, holding others accountable, and through the enhancement of clinical skills, competence, and confidence.

Compass Step Up Step Down (SUSD) service is a bilingual voluntary live-in treatment program for youth experiencing significant mental health issues who require intensive treatment and support. The SUSD facility offers six (6) Ministry funded beds and 24/7 care for youth aged 12 to 17 who identify with any gender. Eligible youth reside at the SUSD facility for up to six (6) months. 

DUTIES:

  • Provide direct clinical and administrative supervision to assigned front line staff
  • Assist in directing the day-to-day clinical operations of the SUSD team, including assigning shift responsibilities and duties to staff, ensuring appropriate coverage
  • Ensure service delivery adheres to relevant legislative/licensing regulations, standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Support the development and implementation of evidenced informed programming to meet client needs, in consultation with the Manager.
  • Conduct file audits and ensure the proper storage of records/logs for the purposes of client confidentiality.
  • Lead team meetings and other interdisciplinary meetings.
  • Demonstrate awareness of, and ensures staff work in accordance with organization health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in annual performance evaluations and discuss professional development opportunities.
  • Provide the Manager with operational information, community needs and advice regarding service direction as requested.          
  • Establish and maintain professional alliances with collateral agencies and service providers.
  • Respond to complaints by clients or staff in accordance with agency policies and procedures.                       
  • Participate in strategic planning and other agency planning activities.   
  • Participate in relevant research activities and program evaluation.
  • May also take lead role or participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Provide direct clinical service to youth and their families, when required, to support front line staff.
  • Provides On-Call support on a rotational basis.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related discipline, or equivalent.*
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience working with young persons with complex mental health needs.
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Registration, in good standing, with a professional College that governs the controlled act of psychotherapy is required (Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario (CRPO)).
  • Knowledge of and experience with evidence informed practices such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Crisis Intervention, Family Therapy, Mindfulness
  • Experience working within a residential or live-in treatment facility is an asset.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to issues facing our diverse populations (i.e. Anishinabek cultures, Francophone, Immigrant/Refugee, LGBT2SQ+, etc.) and social determinants of health.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and therapy skills.
  • Demonstrated supervisory, coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity and accountability.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstration of effective oral and written communication skills in both official languages (English and French) are required.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours/on-call after hours/weekends and overnight as needed; ability to work rotating shift work when required – possible permanent rotating Days/Nights shift schedule up to 12 hours.
